Over the past year, the United States Defense Department has opened thousands of combat positions to women to slowly weave them into the action and see what kind of impact the move have on the ability to fight wars.
This is even happening in the Marines, which is the most male of the armed services and prides itself on having the toughest and most aggressive warriors.
But things are changing, and all-male traditions of the force are getting weaker as women are filing lawsuits, saying that the gender barriers unfairly block them from promotions open to men in combat.
