Motor Trend magazine has named its Car of the Year -- the all-electric Tesla Model S. It's the first all-electric car ever to grab the honor.

The Model S, which can go between 160 and 300 miles on a single charge, beat out the likes of the Ford Fusion, Porsche 911 and Hyundai Azera. The car retails for between $50,000 and $100,000, and so far about 250 have sold.

Motor Trend editor-at-large Angus MacKenzie writes, "At its core, the Tesla Model S is simply a damned good car you happen to plug in to re-fuel."
