Here's Randy's Weekly KPRC GardenLine Tip:

NOTHING SAYS CHRISTMAS LIKE A REAL TREE, SO GO CUT YOUR OWN!

I'm a huge fan of what I refer to as "Christmas Horticulture." By that I mean: I love fresh Poinsettias and Christmas Cactus to adorn the house. I particularly love Amaryllis Bulbs and Bonsai Plants as gifts, as well as the cracking of fresh Pecans for the cooking season ahead. At the top of the list, however, would have to be going to a Choose-And-Cut Christmas Tree Farm. For me, nothing says "IT'S TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS" quite like the smell of a "real" Christmas Tree!

If you've never cut down your own Christmas Tree, then I have a special treat for you this holiday season ... a link that will show you how to locate the closest Christmas Tree Farm in and around the Houston/Woodlands/Spring/Conroe areas. And, if you need more incentive to check out the website below to find a tree farm this year, here's the Texas Christmas Tree Growers FRESH list of reasons you and your family should be cutting your own tree this year.

FAMILY FUN! Visit a Texas farm. Each is unique and many have farm animals, hayrides, picnic areas, nature trails, wreaths, craft stores and more.

REAL TREES have a special charm and provide memories for your family.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY! One acre of growing Christmas Trees can supply oxygen for 18 people and provide shelter for birds and animals.

SAFE! A fresh cut tree kept in water is not a fire hazard!

HELPS TEXAS! Over 100,000 Texas grown Christmas trees were sold last year. A Texas product for all Texans.

When you cut a tree, you know how FRESH it is. Keep it FRESH by re-cutting the base at home and by keeping it in water. A FRESH Texas tree may drink 1 gallon of water the first day it is cut.

Here's the link to the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association website. It's easy to navigate, and helpful in finding the closest Christmas Tree Farm to you!
