Have you winterized your lawn yet? If so, give yourself a gold star, and relax for the next couple of months when it comes to gardening. If you haven't, then it's time to get busy. Is it too late, you ask? It's never too late to do the right thing. And winterizing the lawn is so important for a healthier lawn come springtime. The only time it would be too late to winterize is if we were suffering from our first serious cold snap. That would probably make the winterizer fertilizers inactive. That hasn't happened yet. So, it's not too late to winterize. If you are unfamiliar with what kind of winterizer to put down, then my guess is you're also unfamiliar with our vaunted Lawn Fertilization Schedule. I suggest you click here to read all about it. Remember, part of the fertilization schedule and winterizing process is to apply a pre-emergent herbicide as well. Have you done that yet? If so, you get your second gold star and you should also pat yourself on the back. If you wondering why we are evening talking about weeds, when you aren't seeing any, is because we want to prevent those nasty winter weeds. Those are the ones that seemingly pop up overnight during the winter months, when we don't want to do any yard work anyway. I'm talking about preventing weeds like clover and poa anna (wild bluegrass) from popping up January through February. One final note: You may have heard me say: "Winterizing the lawn is so important, so much so that Turfgrass experts conjecture that if you could only fertilize one time each year, winterizing would be the time." It's just a theory for discussion, not something you should actually do - fertilize one time a year. Oh by the way, on the humorous side of things - if you've never read the Yard Talk With God & St. Francis at our website, click here and read up. It's a funny look at yard care, and starts with the concept "winterize your yard." Until next week, here's to Great Gardening from the GardenLine, heard exclusively weekend mornings from 8 to noon on Talkradio 950 KPRC. ------------------------------------------------------------ AT THE TALKRADIO 950 WEB SITE: ------------------------------------------------------------ Introducing your source for some of the best buys on the Internet.
