Hazardous Waste Collections This Saturday (And A Visit To Buchanan's The Same Day)

Howdy Gardening Enthusiasts!

Have you ever wondered what to do with that old can of paint that hasn't been opened in 12 years? What about those bottles of pesticides you know are no longer effective because they've lost their potency? It could be fertilizers, antifreeze, pool chemicals, fuels or solvents. I have the answer to your question about what to do with those hazardous household chemicals. There are two household hazardous waste collection events this Sat., April 8. One is 8 a.m.-2 p.m., in West Houston at the Harris County Annex 13 and Sport Complex at 17423 Katy Freeway, enter via Barker-Clodine. The other is at the Galena Park ISD Parking Lot from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at 14705 Woodforest Boulevard.

Here are the links for flyers on what to bring and what not to bring! And no matter what you do bring, please do read the safety tips on each of these flyers about how one should prepare these materials for transport to the collection sites.

After this Saturday, the next scheduled area collection date will be in < http://www.cleanwaterclearchoice.org/downloads/hhw_flyer_4-29-06.pdf >Humble Sat., April 29.

If you want to keep up with these potential collection dates and sites over the next year, see the < http://www.cleanwaterclearchoice.org >Clear Water Clear Choice website.

Also Sat., in the next edition of "You gotta get a pair of eyes on that," I will be hanging out at Buchanan's Native Plants in the Heights 1-3 p.m. For the first 15 lucky lugs to print this e-mail tip out and bring it to my appearance at Buchanan's, I will have a free gift for you that could range from a free jar of Nelson's Nutri Star for Citrus and Avocados, Bionic Gardening Gloves, or a free copy of my book, while supplies last. But you have to bring a printed copy of this e-mail tip to qualify.

No matter what, if you need something looked at or identified, whether it's a bug, disease or plant, bring it to Buchanan's Saturday from 1-3 pm and we'll "Get a pair of eyes on that problem." Buchanan's is located on East 11th Street at Oxford. Which is west of Studewood, and east of Heights Boulevard. If you're unsure where that is, then click on Buchanan's website for directions, phone number, or just great information about the nursery in general.

And be sure to check out < http://kprcradio.com/pages/events-randy.html >Randy's event page to see where else Randy will be for the next few weekends. Bring your plants, bugs, and diseases for identification purpose.

And you can still purchase a copy of my new book < http://www.lulu.com/content/142186 >"Gulf Coast Gardening with Randy Lemmon"...
