Rebecca Greene Udden is the founder and artistic director of Main Street Theater and Shannon Emerick is their director of marketing and development. They kick off their season with Tom Stoppard’s The Real Thing and the rest of the season is spectacular. Since MST is also educating thousands of children in theatre arts every year, we talk about the effects of art education and how something that is so much fun to attend in the evening also makes for an important education for children.
The Real Thing runs through October 6th. The extension on its run was just announced and that is happening because tickets are selling fast. Get in on the show: www.mainstreettheater.com
JJ Johnston is the founder and artistic director of Classical Theatre Company and the director of Hamlet, with Irish actor Mathew Keenan in the title role.
CTC has been producing great plays for the past 3 years and their shows have impressed the heck out of me. We get to talk about how they manage to produce such great work, how American actors using British accents can be a mixed blessing (they’re not doing that in this production), what makes the experience of going to a play so much more than going to a movie, and we even get JJ to give us his impressions of the new Superman movie. We had a lot of fun.
Previews start on September 11th and the show opens on the 13th to run through the 29th at the Barnevelder Arts Complex. For tickets to the show and to find out how you can be a part of Classical Theatre Company, go to their website: www.classicaltheatre.org
Dr. Susan Rossmann is the Chief Medical Officer for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Meagan Raeke is their public relations coordinator. We go over the basics which are quite impressive: the size and scope of the services provided by the Blood Center make it one of the world’s best organization of its kind. It’s another reason to be proud of our area because this means people in our community are donating blood, money and time to make it work. We also discuss the increase in High School Blood drives and new rules concerning malaria, affecting travelers to Mexico.
